Joseph Haydn második londoni útjára (1794-95) komponálta 100., G-dúr szimfóniáját, mely a szelíd Allegretto második tételt időről időre délceg indulóvá változtató ütőhangszeres effektusok (valójában a korban divatos „törökös” csinnadratta), valamint a tétel vége felé megszólaló trombitafanfár alapján kapta a „Katona” melléknevet. A szimfóniával egy időben keletkezett és hasonlóképpen a második londoni úthoz kapcsolódó Scena di Berenice (Berenice jelenete) a kor divatos műfaja, a koncertária szellemében teremt drámai légkört a koncertpódiumon. A szöveg Pietro Metastasio Antigono című operájának részlete. Berenice Demetriót siratva panaszolja keserű sorsát, arra vágyva, hogy szerelmének társa lehessen a halálban. Schubert két, eredetileg zongorakíséretes dala, Az ifjú apáca és a Margit a rokkánál a női lélek rejtelmeibe enged betekintést, más-más aspektusból. Akárcsak Haydn Berenicéje, drámai jelenet Liszt Jeanne d'Arc-ja (1845-1874/75) is, mely Alexandre Dumas költeményére készült. A kompozíció zongorakíséretes változatban is fennmaradt, ezúttal azonban az 1858-as, eddig kiadatlan zenekari verziót ismerheti meg a közönség. A műsort záró Liszt-alkotás, az Ünnepi hangok című szimfonikus költemény 1854-es ősbemutatóján bevezető zeneként hangzott fel Schiller Die Huldigung der Künste (A művészetek tisztelete) című drámai költeménye előtt.

Joseph Haydn composed his Symphony No. 100 in G major on his second trip to London (1794-95). The second movement, the allegretto, is from time to time dashingly driven forward by various percussion effects ("Turkish-style” military musical instruments, in fact, which were fashionable at the time). This, together with the trumpet fanfare towards the end of the movement, earned the symphony its "Military” nickname. Composed at the same time as the symphony, and similarly linked to Haydn's second London trip, is the Scena di Berenice, which creates a dramatic atmosphere on the concert stage in the form of a concert aria - a popular genre of the era. The text comes from an excerpt of Antigono, an opera by Pietro Metastasio. Weeping for Demetrio, Berenice laments her bitter fate, yearning for her lover to become her companion in death. In another scena as dramatic as Hadyn's Berenice, Liszt's Jeanne d'Arc (1845-1874/75) features Alexandre Dumas's poetry set to music. Although the version of this composition written for piano accompaniment has also survived, this time the audience will get to know the so-far unpublished 1858 orchestral score. The programme will conclude with Liszt's symphonic poem Festklänge, which made its world première in 1854 as a preliminary piece before a performance of Schiller's dramatic poem The homage to the arts.
