Klimakonzert Orchester Des Wandels (Climate Concert Orchestra Of Change)
Oratorio / Orchestral
The Orchestra of Change, an initiative of musicians from the Staatskapelle Berlin, invites you to the 7th climate concert. The members of the Staatskapelle Berlin not only stand for extraordinary artistic achievements, but also for social commitment in the field of environmental protection. As an »orchestra of change«, which has since become a trademark based on an initiative by the members of the Staatskapelle, they create musical projects in unusual places in the city. The concert was originally intended to be conducted and moderated by Enoch zu Guttenberg, who died unexpectedly on June 15th. Thomas Guggeis is now in charge of the musical direction. "We are very saddened by the sudden death of Enoch zu Guttenberg, who achieved great things both as a conductor and as an environmentalist and who was very close to the orchestra of change. The fact that the climate concert cannot take place as originally planned makes us sad, but we would like to take the opportunity to commemorate his person and his work during the concert. We are glad that Thomas Guggeis agreed to take over the musical direction at short notice and that we were able to win such a sought-after soloist in Michael Volle. We will keep our memory of Enoch zu Guttenberg and his musical as well as his environmental-political merits.« says Markus Bruggaier, member of the Staatskapelle Berlin and board member of the NaturTon Foundation. A series of "climate concerts" has taken the ensemble, which has performed both as a large symphony orchestra and as a chamber music ensemble, to the Gardens of the World in Marzahn (as part of the International Garden Exhibition 2017) and to the Lokhalle in the Schöneberger Südgelände Nature Park. First-class artists such as Zubin Mehta, Daniel Barenboim, Patricia Kopatchinskaja and Enoch zu Guttenberg could be won as participants. Proceeds from the concerts benefit the NaturTon Foundation, which was set up by the orchestra in 2009 and specifically supports World Wildlife Fund (WWF) projects in India and Moldova, for example. In addition, the orchestra musicians, together with violin and bow makers, founded the Eben!Holz eV association, which promotes projects in Madagascar for the sustainable use of exotic woods used in instrument making. The proceeds from this benefit concert go to the sustainable protection of endangered ebony and rosewood, which are used worldwide to build musical instruments. A project was launched in Madagascar for this purpose by the Eben!Holz e. Wildlife Conservation Society organizes local initiatives to reforest 100 hectares of degraded forest with 30 local tree species and to build forest management structures that enable the local population to generate a sustainable income and thus reduce the depletion of natural resources. This concert takes place in connection with a conference of the Stiftung Denkwerk Zukunft.
