Alexander Borodin (1833-1887), known not only as a composer but also as a physician, chemist and scientist, wrote the libretto and music for the opera "Prince Igor" for 18 years, but failed to complete it. After his death, NR Korsakov and AK Glazunov worked on the overture and orchestration. "Prince Igor" is a large-scale epic canvas based on the Russian medieval epic "Word for Igor's Regiment" from the XII century. The prince of Putivel goes on a campaign against the Polovtsian nomads, despite the bad omen - a solar eclipse. Igor is determined to defeat the conqueror and save the fatherland. With Wagner's power, Borodin built the character of his opponents in this glorious story of heroism and betrayal, inspired by Russian and Asian folklore. The famous "Polovtsian Dances", the aria of Prince Igor "No sleep, no peace for my tortured soul" and others gained world fame.
