Honorary conductor Iván Fischer and the Konzerthausorchester perform with our Artist in Residence Augustin Hadelich Antonín Dvořák's only violin concerto from 1883, which is as virtuoso as it is very vocal at times.

After that, the stage in the Great Hall gets crowded, because Richard Strauss is on the program: "Thus Spoke Zarathustra" is "by far the most important, most perfect, most interesting and most peculiar of my pieces," the composer said. After the dress rehearsal in 1896 he was obviously very pleased with himself. Zarathustra, the hermit living prophet in Friedrich Nietzsche's much-discussed text, which inspired the piece of music, was not in high spirits at all. He visited people to tell them about higher connections - and of course they didn't want to listen to him. Richard Strauss' symphonic poem is so great that one cannot help but listen to it and, indirectly, also to Nietzsche's misjudged and often misunderstood prophet!

Ehrendirigent Iván Fischer und das Konzerthausorchester musizieren mit unserem Artist in Residence Augustin Hadelich Antonín Dvořáks einziges, ebenso virtuoses wie streckenweise sehr gesangliches Violinkonzert von 1883.

Danach wird es voll auf der Bühne im Großen Saal, denn Richard Strauss steht auf dem Programm: „Also sprach Zarathustra“ sei „Weitaus das Bedeutendste, Formvollendetste, Interessanteste und Eigentümlichste meiner Stücke“, befand der Komponist. Nach der Generalprobe 1896 war er offenbar sehr zufrieden mit sich. Gar nicht hochgestimmt war Zarathustra, der eremitisch lebende Prophet in Friedrich Nietzsches viel diskutiertem Text, der das Musikstück inspirierte. Er besuchte die Menschen, um ihnen von höheren Zusammenhängen zu erzählen – und sie wollten ihm natürlich nicht zuhören. Richard Strauss’ Sinfonische Dichtung nun ist so großartig, dass man gar nicht anders kann, als ihr und damit indirekt auch Nietzsches verkanntem, oft missverstandenen Propheten zu lauschen!
