“Kurt Weill has achieved something that only really great composers can do – to create his own style. There is a sound and a harmony with him that you always recognize, roughness and at the same time complexity that I appreciate very much,” Joana Mallwitz explains her preference for the composer. Like the first, his second symphony is a rarely performed work, so this season's Weill focus may bring you two discoveries at once. Weill's satirical ballet with song "The Seven Deadly Sins", on the other hand, is a well-known masterpiece, which corresponds thematically to the introductory "Dance of the Seven Veils" from Richard Strauss' "Salome": "I'm looking forward to the singer and actress Katherine Merling, who also expresses the wildness of the piece in scenic elements – an ideal cast!”
