La Bohème Puccini

Adapted from Scenes from the Bohemian Life of Henry Murger, the work appeared in serial form in the Parisian newspaper Le Corsaire between 1845 and 1849 and was performed shortly afterwards in dramatic form at the Théâtre des Variétés. Puccini's version gives rise to the fragile figure of Mimi. The general public sees in it the image of a whole era, that of the Paris of carefree student and artistic youth at the turn of the century. Debussy himself said "I don't know anyone who described the Paris of that time as well as Puccini in La Bohème ". Beyond realism, Puccini is above all a master in the art of constructing a melodic framework of great intensity and generous lyricism. To embody the Mimi-Rodolfo couple, the young Selene Zanetti who has already shone in this role in Venice, Stuttgart and Naples, and the Samoan tenor Pene Pati, who recently triumphed at the Paris Opera in L'Elixir d' love and in Romeo at the Opéra-Comique. Let's trust the boss of the “Frenchman” Eric Ruf to offer an original vision of the Parisian 19th century and the young conductor Lorenzo Viotti – he is 31 years old – to galvanize the musical forces of the Orchester National de France with his communicative energy.

Adaptée des Scènes de la vie de bohème d’Henry Murger, l’œuvre parut en feuilleton dans le journal parisien Le Corsaire entre 1845 et 1849 et fut représentée peu de temps après sous une forme dramatique au Théâtre des Variétés. La version de Puccini donne naissance à la fragile figure de Mimi. Le grand public y voit l’image de toute une époque, celle du Paris de l’insouciante jeunesse estudiantine et artistique au tournant du siècle. Debussy lui-même déclara « Je ne connais personne qui ait décrit le Paris de cette époque aussi bien que Puccini dans La Bohème ». Au-delà du réalisme, Puccini est avant tout un maître dans l’art de construire une trame mélodique d’une grande intensité et au lyrisme généreux. Pour incarner le couple Mimi-Rodolfo, la jeune Selene Zanetti qui a déjà brillé dans ce rôle à Venise, Stuttgart et Naples, et le ténor samoan Pene Pati, qui lui a récemment triomphé à l’Opéra de Paris dans L’Elixir d’amour et en Roméo à l’Opéra-Comique. Faisons confiance au patron du « Français » Eric Ruf pour offrir une vision originale du XIXe siècle parisien et au jeune chef Lorenzo Viotti – il a 31 ans – pour galvaniser de son énergie communicative les forces musicales de l’Orchestre National de France.
