The myth of the "Cinderella" or "Cinderella" has existed for centuries in different versions in Europe, Africa and Asia. In Germany, most people will know him in the version of the Brothers Grimm. Another important adaptation is Charles Perrault's "Cendrillon ou la Petite Pantouffle de verre" ("Cinderella or the little glass slipper") from 1697. This is where the motif of the glass slipper appears for the first time, which ultimately determines the love between Cinderella and the prince will. The Italian composer Gioacchino Rossini also recorded the Cinderella fairy tale with his librettist Jacopo Ferretti in 1817, but made decisive changes: Ferretti replaced the glass shoe with a bracelet. But what is Cinderella without her famous shoe?

Rossini shows: it doesn't necessarily have to be the shoe. Because although Rossini is based on Perrault's »Cendrillon«, his opera is not a fairy tale. Rather, with »La Cenerentola« he ties in with the playful Commedia dell'arte. In a carnival style, the characters lead each other astray through numerous disguises and role changes. So it is sometimes quite turbulent - but there is still room for moments of deep intimacy and poetry, as shown not only by the love scenes between Cinderella Angelina and her Prince Don Ramiro, but also by Rossini's brilliant music.
