Taking on Goethe's Faust , Berlioz deploys orchestral and choral power, instrumental virtuosity combined with refinement and expressiveness. Faust, saved by Goethe, becomes damned here, perhaps explaining why the work created in general indifference will no longer be performed during the composer's lifetime. This dramatic legend for four soloists, large choir and large orchestra, conducted by Paul Daniel , is an exceptional event.
