During a stay in New York in 1907, Puccini happened to witness a play by David Belasco, entitled The girl of the golden West , and was extremely impressed.
Having obtained the necessary consent from the author, he commissioned the poet Carlo Zangarini, who was later succeeded by the Tuscan writer Guelfo Civinini, to write the libretto, thus La Fanciulla del West was born , which debuted in 1910 at the Metropolitan in New York.
The staging, directed by Andrea Cigni, will take us to California, a micro-society made up of men, forced to live in a particular professional and social condition, a condition of isolation, frustration, routine in their lives, where, however, it tells of a love that ends with a happy ending. Directed by Pietro Rizzo , one of the most talented young Italian conductors, already on the podium of the greatest theaters in the world, including: Metropolitan Opera, Dallas Opera, Deutsche Oper Berlin, Maggio Musicale Fiorentino, New National Theater Tokyo and many others theaters in Italy and abroad.
