Considered an operatic spaghetti western , this Puccinian pearl was composed to be premiered at the Metropolitan Opera in 1910 and only now gets its first production at the Municipal Theater of São Paulo. The plot, coming from a play of the same name by David Belasco, takes place during the North American gold rush and takes place in a mining camp in which bandits, oppressed workers, a cruel sheriff and a single woman of very strong character experience universal issues. such as love, longing, harassment, justice and, finally, forgiveness. Musically, this late opera among Puccinian productions is among the composer's most inspiring moments, which makes use of various rhythmic and melodic motifs that refer to the local couleur of the American Wild West.La Fanciulla del West also offers us one of the most beautiful tenor arias in the entire repertoire ( Ch'ella mi creda libero e lontano ), intense male choir passages and a female character with great vocal density, Minnie. For this production, Theatro Municipal de São Paulo invited the director, actress and filmmaker Carla Camurati, who has been working on this opera for over a decade with great affective and musical interest.

Considerada um spaghetti western operístico, esta pérola pucciniana foi composta para ser estreada no Metropolitan Opera em 1910 e somente agora ganha uma primeira produção no Theatro Municipal de São Paulo. A trama, advinda de uma peça teatral homônima de David Belasco, se passa durante a corrida do ouro norte americana e tem como cenário um campo de mineradores no qual bandidos, trabalhadores oprimidos, um xerife cruel e uma única mulher de caráter fortíssimo vivenciam questões universais como o amor, a saudade, o assédio, a justiça e, por fim, o perdão. Musicalmente, esta ópera tardia dentre as produções puccinianas, está entre os momentos de maior inspiração do compositor, que faz uso de diversos motivos rítmicos e melódicos que remetem à couleur local do faroeste americano. La Fanciulla del West nos brinda ainda com uma das árias para tenor entre as mais belas de todo o repertório (Ch’ella mi creda libero e lontano), intensas passagens de coro masculino e um personagem feminino de grande densidade vocal, Minnie. Para esta montagem, o Theatro Municipal de São Paulo convidou a diretora, atriz e cineasta Carla Camurati que vem se debruçando nesta ópera há mais de uma década com grande interesse afetivo e musical.
