La serva padrona is the most famous and performed buffa opera in history. Written at first as an intermezzos of the opera would be Il prigioner superbo  by the same composer, the opera soon became independent and toured Europe.

Pergolesi's small comic opera created a great uproar and set off an entire musical revolution in the 18th century, known as the Querelle des Bouffons, which changed the course of Western opera history. Nearly three hundred years later, La serva padrona continues to amuse and captivate all kinds of audiences.

Maintaining this revolutionary and transgressive spirit of the play, the show proposes a current and feminist reading of the opera, which, playing with historical ambiguity, talks about the invisible work of women, specifically work at home. .

Serpina, Mr. Uberto's maid, tired of doing all the housework and receiving nothing but complaints and abuse, will raise her voice and take action: she will devise a plan to have her value and role recognized. inside the house. Despite the boss's refusal, she manages to convince him to marry her and thus achieve the coveted equality.
