"La Wally" tells of the courageous departure of a young, emancipated woman - and of her failure. Wally flees from her father, who wants to marry her off to Vincenzo Gellner, to the highest mountain peaks. But she loves Giuseppe Hagenbach. After the death of her father, she returns to her hometown to see him again. But misunderstandings and jealousy let her honest confession of love end up in public humiliation.
