He sailed across the Thames with an orchestra on a large raft. The babbling river accompanied the premiere of his Water Music. A piece that was not intended for the fishing and barges, but for King George I. Water Music's three suites provided the backdrop for dinner on his royal yacht. These 'royals' really enjoyed it: Handel and his musicians had to repeat the work twice. 1982 gegründet, feiert die Akademie für Alte Musik Berlin, kurz Akamus, ihr 40-jähriges Bestehen. Grund genug, das Orchester zu seinem Jubiläum in den Riesensaal der Innsbrucker Hofburg zu laden. Hier wird es, gemeinsam mit der wunderbaren Roberta Mameli, ein Programm zum Besten geben, in dessen Mittelpunkt drei große Lamento-Szenen stehen, die durch instrumentale Zwischengesänge eingeleitet und miteinander verbunden werden. Sind es Figuren der antiken Mythologie, wie Herkules und Hebe, Apollo und Daphne oder auch Acis und Galatea, die sich zunächst des dramatischen Geschehens bemächtigen, so setzt die Kantate «Il pianto di Maria» von Giovanni Battista Ferrandini den glanzvollen Schlusspunkt darunter.

Founded in 1982, the Academy for Early Music Berlin, or Akamus for short, is celebrating its 40th anniversary. Reason enough to invite the orchestra to the gigantic hall of the Innsbruck Hofburg for its anniversary. Here, together with the wonderful Roberta Mameli, there will be a program that focuses on three large lament scenes that are introduced and connected by instrumental interludes.
