In 1822, only 30 years old, but already widely recognized as an idol of the Italian National Opera, Gioachino Rossini met Ludwig van Beethoven - 51 years old, deaf, quarrelsome and in very poor health.
Communicating with him by writing (because he could not hear him), Beethoven remarked: "Ah, Rossini! So you are the one who created The Barber of Seville! Congratulations! As long as Italian opera exists, I will continue to play. Never try to write anything other than opera buff - any other style would be violence against your own nature "...

At the age of 38, Gioachino Rossini already has 38 operas behind him. "Count Ori" together with "Wilhelm Tell" is one of the last among them. It was created in 1828 as part of the musical material in it is borrowed from another of his works - "Journey through Reims", written three years earlier for the coronation of the French king - Charles H.

"Count Ori" is a comic opera and recreates a humorous story, but there are still many differences with the modern genre of "opera comedian": while the latter is usually built on short lyrical numbers and spoken dialogues, "Count Ori" contains "highly sustained, even massive musical forms ”, accompanied by an accompanying recitative.

And although here we find Rossini's characteristic floral orchestration, her short overture is rather strange, ending with a sigh-like pizzicato in string instruments.

The premiere of "The Count of Orie" was on August 20, 1828 at the Paris Opera under the direction of Francois Antoine Habenek. She once again brought Rossini fame, giving him endless popularity for 20 years.
A few months after the Paris performance, the opera was staged at the Royal Opera House in London, in Italian!

Two years later, on December 16, 1830, it premiered in New Orleans at the Théâtre d'Orléans, and on August 22, 1831, in New York.
