We never tire of hearing The Marriage of Figaro as the opera is full of the genius of Mozart and Da Ponte. It is the timeless story of characters torn between desire and social conventions, but it is also the virtuosity of Mozartian singing, unique as well as universal, 230 years after the composer's death, whether in recitatives, of tunes or ensembles.


The Marriage of Figaro is the first opera production by American filmmaker James Gray, whose highly acclaimed filmography ( Little Odessa , Golden Lion in 1994, Two Lovers, We Own The Night, Ad Astra ) shows a taste for social and family frescoes.

The musical direction is provided by Jérémie Rhorer who conducts the Orchester Philharmonique du Luxembourg for the performances at the Grand Théâtre of this great classical production in period costumes, created by Christian Lacroix, which brings together on stage John Chest, Adriana Gonzalez, Florie Valiquette and Robert Gleadow.

On ne se lasse pas d’entendre Les Noces de Figaro tant l’opéra regorge du génie de Mozart et de Da Ponte. C’est l’histoire intemporelle de personnages partagés entre désir et conventions sociales, mais c’est aussi la virtuosité du chant mozartien, unique autant qu’universel, 230 ans après la mort du compositeur, qu’il s’agisse de récitatifs, d’airs ou d’ensembles.
