De Duitse cellist Leonard Elschenbroich keert terug bij het Nederlands Kamerorkest met Tsjaikovski’s Rococovariaties. Een geliefd werd voor de cello van de Russische meester die zich door Mozart liet inspireren, zoals ook blijkt uit zijn Suite nr. 4 ‘Mozartiana’.

De vorige keer dat Leonard Elschenbroich optrad met het Nederlands Kamerorkest maakte hij indruk met de wereldpremière van het Tweede celloconcert van Willem Jeths. ‘Leonard Elschenbroich bracht deze pijnlijk prachtige compositie met groot inlevingsvermogen’, aldus Trouw. Deze keer speelt hij de virtuoze en meeslepende Rococovariaties van Tsjaikovski. De Russische componist liet zich voor dit werk inspireren door de muziek van Mozart, een van zijn favoriete componisten.

Eerbetoon van Tsjaikovski aan Mozart
‘Het is dankzij Mozart dat ik mijn leven aan de muziek heb gewijd’, aldus Tsjaikovski. Met zijn Suite nr. 4 ‘Mozartiana’ schreef hij een eerbetoon ter gelegenheid van het honderdjarige jubileum van Mozarts opera Don Giovanni. Tsjaikovski arrangeerde voor deze suite een paar van Mozarts bekendste pianostukken. Van Debussy klinkt de orkestversie van Childern’s Corner, vrolijke en soms dromerige muziek die hij opdroeg aan zijn toen driejarige dochter. Daarnaast beleeft het sprookjesachtige Märchentänze van Thomas Adès zijn Nederlandse première.

The last time Leonard Elschenbroich performed with the Netherlands Chamber Orchestra, he made an impression with the world premiere of the Second Cello Concerto by Willem Jeths. 'Leonard Elschenbroich performed this painfully beautiful composition with great empathy,' says Trouw. This time he plays Tchaikovsky's virtuoso and compelling Rococo Variations . The Russian composer was inspired for this work by the music of Mozart, one of his favorite composers.

Tribute from Tchaikovsky to Mozart
"It is thanks to Mozart that I have dedicated my life to music," said Tchaikovsky. With his Suite no. 4 'Mozartiana' he wrote a tribute on the occasion of the hundredth anniversary of Mozart's opera Don Giovanni. Tchaikovsky arranged some of Mozart's most famous piano pieces for this suite. Debussy plays the orchestral version of Childern's Corner , cheerful and sometimes dreamy music that he dedicated to his then three-year-old daughter. In addition, the fairytale Märchentänze by Thomas Adès will have its Dutch premiere.
