Playground: the friday academy invites young talents who are at the beginning of their careers to make music together

Jean-Philippe Rameau's opera-ballet Les Indes galantesrepresents an undisputed high point of French baroque opera and continues to fascinate with its enormous wealth of musically dramatic means of expression. The plot of the opera is permeated by orientalist clichés and western projections onto violently colonized regions of the world. The problematic content of this opera calls for a contemporary adaptation that reveals and addresses the historical and ideological interdependencies of the original. Rameau's enchanting musical creations are stripped of their historical baggage. At the same time, the interdisciplinary staging conveys a contemporary commentary on the historical context of the work and the cultural-historical circumstances of its creation.

Jean-Philippe Rameaus Opéra-Ballet Les Indes galantes stellt einen unangefochtenen Höhepunkt der französischen Barockoper dar und begeistert bis heute durch eine ungeheure Fülle von musikalisch dramatischen Ausdrucksmitteln. Die Handlung der Oper ist durchdrungen von orientalistischen Klischees und westlichen Projektionen auf gewaltsam kolonialisierte Weltregionen. Die inhaltliche Problematik dieser Oper verlangt nach einer zeitgenössischen Adaption, welche die historisch-ideologischen Verflechtungen der Vorlage offenlegt und thematisiert. Rameaus hinreissende musikalische Schöpfungen werden von ihrem historischen Ballast befreit. Zugleich vermittelt die interdisziplinäre Inszenierung einen zeitgenössischen Kommentar auf den historischen Kontext des Werks und die kulturgeschichtlichen Umstände seiner Entstehung.
