Depois de ter testemunhado uma exibição de danças indígenas do Louisiana, apresentadas em Paris pelos chefes Metchigaema, em 1723, o compositor francês Jean-Philippe Rameau inspirou-se naquilo a que assistiu para criar uma opéra-ballet intitulada Les Indes galantes. Obra-prima do Iluminismo, Les Indes galantes parte do desejo de encontro com culturas distantes (turca, inca, persa ou nativa americana), a partir de um fascinado olhar europeu. Redescoberta no século XX, a ópera foi já dirigida pelo maestro Leonardo García Alarcón, que agora a apresenta em versão de concerto.

After witnessing an exhibition of Louisiana indigenous dances performed in Paris by the Metchigaema chiefs in 1723, the French composer Jean-Philippe Rameau was inspired by what he saw to create an opéra-ballet entitled Les Indes galantes . A masterpiece of the Enlightenment, Les Indes galantes starts from the desire to encounter distant cultures (Turkish, Inca, Persian or Native American), from a fascinated European point of view. Rediscovered in the 20th century, the opera was directed by maestro Leonardo García Alarcón, who now presents it in a concert version.
