The project The History of Babar the Little Elephant proposes the scenic adaptation of Histoire de Babar, le Petit Éléfant, by Jean de Brunhoff, based on the composition for piano and narrator by Francis Poulenc.

First published in 1939, Jean de Brunhoff's story, aimed at children and accompanied by illustrations by the author, tells the story of a small elephant, how he lost his mother in the forest, killed by a hunter; and how he arrived in the city, where he was adopted by an old lady who raised him as a human being, dressing him in decent clothes and teaching him good manners. The little elephant is called Babar and, after his adventures in the city, he will return to the forest, where he will become king.
