"The contact of a supersensible phenomenon with human nature, and the impossibility of its duration" - Richard Wagner brings this formula to his romantic opera Lohengrin, in which he describes Wolfram von Eschenbach's Parzival-Epos, sagas of the Brothers Grimm and various collections of fairy tales interwoven. The staging by Jens-Daniel Herzog transfers the material played in the Middle Ages to the 20th century and shows artificial paradises in which dream worlds and existential fears collide. The focus is on the trauma of a young woman who is held responsible for the death of her little brother. The grail hero Lohengrin comes to her aid on the condition that she never asks his name. Elsa, however, asks the forbidden question ... Originating at a time of revolutionary upheavals in the 19th century, the score marks a turning point in Wagner's overall oeuvre and for the first time largely realizes his concept of a well-composed musical drama.
