Two feuding noble families in 16th-century Scotland, two lovers despite a family feud: This Scottish variant of "Romeo and Juliet" became one of the greatest successes of the Italian bel canto specialist Gaetano Donizetti (most recently at the Theater Hof with "Der Liebesrank" 2013). The work with a highly dramatic plot including a duel at dawn and murder on the wedding night as well as the incredibly powerful, touching and moving music with the famous madness aria was a triumphant success when it premiered in Naples in 1835.
Many great interpreters have lent their voices to "Lucia", such as Maria Callas or Anna Netrebko.

The audience at the Theater Hof can look forward to an exciting story, high-class singers and, last but not least, a glass harmonica, which Donizetti used prominently in his opera - bel canto at its finest!
