Pierre Dumoussaud, in his early thirties, is part of the new generation of prominent conductors. He conducts the time of a concert the Orchester Symphonique Saint-Étienne Loire, for an evening devoted to French music. Rare are the musical works that inspire animated cinema. It was, however, the symphonic poem The Sorcerer's Apprentice (1897) by Paul Dukas, inspired by Goethe, that Walt Disney left to create Fantasia in 1940. A work that gives pride of place to the bassoon, the conductor's favorite instrument Pierre Dumoussaud. The concert continues with a regional inspiration, the Chants d'Auvergneby Joseph Canteloube. This native of Annonay, son of an Auvergnat and a Cévennes, harmonized traditional regional songs in the 1920s, without folkloric ambition but in the manner of a Bartók feeding his scholarly music with popular Hungarian tunes, in an orchestration of great refinement. The evening ends with the famous Symphony No. 3 by Saint-Saëns, known as the “Organ Symphony”. A masterpiece of his symphonies, this commission from the Royal Philharmonic Society was premiered in London in 1886. Reflecting the composer's admiration for Liszt, this inspired work brings together the organ, the piano and an orchestra that alternates restrained intimacy and grandiose post-romantic frescoes.

Pierre Dumoussaud, jeune trentenaire, fait partie de la nouvelle génération des chefs d’orchestre en vue. Il dirige le temps d’un concert l’Orchestre Symphonique Saint-Étienne Loire, pour une soirée consacrée à la musique française. Rares sont les œuvres musicales inspirant le cinéma d’animation. C’est pourtant bien du poème symphonique L’Apprenti sorcier (1897) de Paul Dukas, inspiré par Goethe, qu’est parti Walt Disney pour créer Fantasia en 1940. Une œuvre qui fait la part belle au basson, instrument de prédilection du chef Pierre Dumoussaud. Le concert se poursuit avec une inspiration régionale, les Chants d’Auvergne de Joseph Canteloube. Ce natif d’Annonay, fils d’un Auvergnat et d’une Cévenole, a harmonisé dans les années 1920 les chants traditionnels régionaux, sans ambition folklorique mais à la manière d’un Bartók nourrissant sa musique savante d’airs populaires hongrois, dans une orchestration d’un grand raffinement. La soirée s’achève avec la célèbre Symphonie n°3 de Saint-Saëns, dite « Symphonie avec orgue ». Chef-d’œuvre de ses symphonies, cette commande de la Royal Philharmonic Society fut créée à Londres en 1886. Reflet de l’admiration du compositeur pour Liszt, cette œuvre inspirée fait dialoguer l’orgue, le piano et un orchestre qui fait alterner intimisme tout en retenue et fresques post-romantiques grandioses.
