MARY OF BUENOS AIRES - Theater Hof 2021/22

Through a crack in the asphalt, the forgotten voice of Maria is conjured up in the dark, foggy night. She appears as a person through her voice. She once lived in the poor suburbs and set off for the center of the metropolis of Buenos Aires. Her life is the irrepressible passion and above all the tango, which lets her rise to the status of a prostitute in the demi-world and which is ultimately her death. But María is immortal and yearning like tango itself. A story about eternal growth and death, passion and the soul of tango.

With “María de Buenos Aires” the Argentinian Astor Piazzolla, the king of tango, has succeeded in creating a unique declaration of love for what is perhaps the most passionate dance of all and for his hometown Buenos Aires. On their intensive journey into the world around María de Buenos Aires, the dancers of the Hof Ballet Company will be accompanied by soloists from the music theater ensemble and the Hof Symphony Orchestra.
