The Portuguese pianist Maria João Pires is one of the most unusual and independent contemporary artists. Pearly light arpeggios, crystal clear trills and intense phrasing characterize her playing. In addition, Maria João Pires is considered the leading interpreter of Mozart. Only a few artists succeed in getting down to the heart of the music in Mozart's piano works.
