For the restored version of the film Metropolis , the Argentinian composer Martin Matalon composed an original score in 1995, initially intended for sixteen instrumentalists and electronic device, of which this exceptional cine-concert inaugurates the orchestral version.
Modeled on the rhythm of film narration, Matalon's work becomes, thanks to the effects of spatialization enabled by electronics, a veritable musical double of Fritz Lang's visual poem. Echoes of jazz and music from outside Europe, acoustic and refracted sounds merge to deeply renew the characterization of situations and characters, generating new hypotheses and thus contributing to the rich history of the interpretation of Metropolis .
