Wenn Mischa Maisky spielt, dann mit ganzer Seele und ganzem Herzen. Der weltbekannte Cellist mit der aufwühlenden Biografie prägt seit Jahrzehnten das musikalische Leben in West und Ost. Geboren in Lettland, ausgebildet in Russland, emigrierte er – mit Mühe dem Arbeitslager entkommen – nach Israel. »Wenn man mich fragt, wo ich zu Hause bin, antworte ich immer: Ich bin da zu Hause, wo die Menschen klassische Musik lieben, verstehen und genießen.« Ein Sieg der Kunst über die Unkultur ist das erste Cellokonzert von Dmitri Schostakowitsch, entstanden nach dem Tod des Diktators Stalin, dessen willkürlichen Repressalien der Komponist ausgesetzt gewesen war. Solist der Uraufführung war Mstislaw Rostropowitsch, Mischa Maiskys früher Lehrer, Freund und Mentor. Neben dem für Schostakowitsch typischen sarkastischen Humor berührt das Konzert durch seine expressive Innerlichkeit.

Das Forum am Schlosspark verbindet eine enge Partnerschaft mit der Deutschen Radio Philharmonie und ihrem international renommierten Chefdirigenten Pietari Inkinen: Jede Spielzeit ist der herausragende Klangkörper in Ludwigsburg zu Gast. Mit dem Vorspiel zu Modest Mussorgskis Volksdrama »Chowanschtschina« lässt das Orchester die Utopie einer gewaltlosen Welt aufscheinen, bevor es mit Ludwig van Beethovens siebter Sinfonie in einen kollektiven Freudentaumel ausbricht. Auch dieses Werk, nur sechs Wochen nach der blutigen Völkerschlacht bei Leipzig uraufgeführt, darf als musikalisches Fanal gegen jegliche Unrechtsherrschaft auf unserem Globus verstanden werden.

When Mischa Maisky plays, he does so with all his soul and heart. The world-famous cellist with a stirring biography has been shaping musical life in West and East for decades. Born in Latvia, educated in Russia, he emigrated to Israel after barely escaping the labor camp. "If you ask me where I'm at home, I always answer: I'm at home where people love, understand and enjoy classical music." Dmitri Shostakovich's first cello concerto was a victory of art over unculture after the death of the dictator Stalin, to whose arbitrary reprisals the composer had been exposed. The soloist for the premiere was Mstislav Rostropovich, Mischa Maisky's early teacher, friend and mentor. In addition to the sarcastic humor typical of Shostakovich, the concert is touching through its expressive inwardness.

The Forum am Schlosspark has a close partnership with the German Radio Philharmonic and its internationally renowned chief conductor Pietari Inkinen: the outstanding orchestra is a guest in Ludwigsburg every season. With the prelude to Modest Mussorgsky's folk drama "Khovanshchina", the orchestra reveals the utopia of a non-violent world before breaking out into a collective frenzy of joy with Ludwig van Beethoven's Seventh Symphony. This work, premiered just six weeks after the bloody Battle of the Nations near Leipzig, can also be seen as a musical beacon against any unjust rule on our globe.
