Named after the place where it was first performed, Mozart's »Prague Symphony« is closely linked to the opera »Don Giovanni« in terms of its genesis and impact. Although "Don Giovanni" only saw the light of day ten months after the symphony – also in Prague – the symphony's expansive, suspenseful Adagio introduction seems to directly anticipate the somber atmosphere of the opera's Commendatore scenes. Mozart's Requiem, his last composition shrouded in numerous myths and legends, is one of the most poignant settings of the Latin requiem mass. Only about two-thirds of the Requiem actually came from Mozart's pen. In completing it, Mozart's pupil Franz Xaver Süssmayr drew on lost sketches, perhaps also on Mozart's oral instructions. Despite this, the Requiem is one of the most important works by the Salzburg genius. None other than Philippe Herreweghe, who has been setting standards in this field for decades, provides a historically versed interpretation.
