쟌 카를로 메노티(Gian Carlo Menotti, 1911-2007)는 오페라로는 처음으로 퓰리처상을 수상한 20세기 이탈리아 태생의 미국 오페라 작곡가로, 미국의 대중적인 오페라가 꽃을 피우던 시기인 1940년과 1960년 사이에 모험적이고 다양한 시도를 한 작곡가로 인정받는다.

메노티 자신이 자신의 오페라를 ‘Musical Drama’라고 이야기했듯 이번 소프라노 이현민과 함께하는 음악극 시리즈Ⅰ에서 < The Medium, 영매 >, < The Telephone, 전화 > 두 작품을 선보인다.

Gian Carlo Menotti (1911-2007) was a 20th-century Italian-born American opera composer who was the first to win the Pulitzer Prize for opera. He composed his works between 1940 and 1960, a period when American popular opera was blooming. He is recognized as a composer who made adventurous and diverse attempts.
These two operas, <The Medium> and <The Telephone>, were written by Menotti himself and are realistic works that vividly reflect the pain and confusion of the times.
As Menotti himself referred to his operas as 'Musical Drama', the Music Drama Series I with soprano Lee Hyun-min presents two works, <The Medium> and <The Telephone>.
