Sergei Rachmaninoff's breathlessly beautiful Second Piano Concerto is probably the most beloved of all Romantic piano concertos. It is music filled with passion, longing and romance, but also pleasure and peace. The soloist is the Italian Beatrice Rana, acclaimed by both audiences and critics and a recurring guest on the international concert stages. 

She made her debut with the Royal Philharmonic in January 2020 when she played Tchaikovsky's first piano concerto. It is with great pleasure that we welcome her back, now together with the visiting Luxembourg Philharmonic led by its Spanish chief conductor Gustavo Gimeno. 

In addition, we hear Hector Berlioz's fantastic symphony - Symphonie fantastique - which burns with energy, strong desires and the heat of unreserved love. It is the story of a young sensitive musician who, in frustration, poisons himself with opium. The one he loves turns into a recurring melody - an "idea fixe" - that constantly torments him.

Sergej Rachmaninovs andlöst vackra andra pianokonsert är nog den mest älskade av alla romantiska pianokonserter. Det är musik fylld av passion, längtan och romantik, men också välbehag och frid. Solist är italienska Beatrice Rana, hyllad av både publik och kritiker och en återkommande gäst på de internationella konsertscenerna. 

Hon gjorde debut med Kungliga Filharmonikerna i januari 2020 då hon spelade Tjajkovskijs första pianokonsert. Det är med stor glädje vi hälsar henne tillbaka, nu tillsammans med gästande Luxemburgs filharmoniker som leds av sin spanske chefdirigent Gustavo Gimeno. 

Dessutom får vi höra Hector Berlioz fantastiska symfoni – Symphonie fantastique – som brinner av energi, starka begär och den oreserverade kärlekens hetta. Det är berättelsen om en ung känslig musiker som i frustration förgiftar sig med opium. Den han älskar förvandlas till en återkommande melodi – en ”idée fixe” – som ständigt plågar honom.
