«Паяцы» – опера о театре: примитивную комедию дель арте разыгрывает гастролирующая труппа, среди ее актеров бушуют реальные страсти: актриса встречается с молодым любовником. Ее муж, глава труппы, охвачен ревностью: «Смейся, паяц, над разбитой любовью!» Прямо во время спектакля он убивает обоих. События разворачиваются в репетиционном зале, в гримуборных и на сцене. Режиссер переносит действие в современное театральное пространство – ведь человеческая натура не меняется, и такие события могут происходить в любые времена. На время спектакля актеры «умирают», чтобы жить в своих персонажах. Но где граница между человеком и маской? Если актер не в силах разделить себя и роль, в жизнь врывается трагедия…

“Pagliacci” is an opera about the theater: a primitive commedia dell’arte is performed by a touring troupe, real passions are raging among its actors: the actress is dating a young lover. Her husband, the head of the troupe, is overcome with jealousy: “Laugh, clown, at broken love!” Right during the performance he kills both. Events unfold in the rehearsal hall, in dressing rooms and on stage. The director transfers the action to a modern theatrical space - after all, human nature does not change, and such events can occur at any time. During the performance, the actors “die” to live in their characters. But where is the border between man and mask? If an actor is unable to separate himself and the role, tragedy breaks into life...
