Η Συμφωνική Ορχήστρα Δήμου Θεσσαλονίκης, ανήμερα της εορτής του πολιούχου της Θεσσαλονίκης Αγίου Δημητρίου, γιορτάζει την τριπλή επέτειο της πόλης, τιμώντας παράλληλα τα σαράντα χρόνια από το θάνατο της «τραγουδίστριας της νίκης», Σοφίας Βέμπο, που εμψύχωσε με τις ερμηνείες της πλήθος Ελλήνων στρατιωτών αλλά και όλον τον καταπονημένο από την κατοχή ελληνικό λαό. Οι λαοφιλείς μελωδίες των τραγουδιών της, διασκευασμένες και ενορχηστρωμένες από τον αείμνηστο Βασίλη Τενίδη θα ξαναζωντανέψουν τις εικόνες και τους ήχους της εποχής.
Σε αυτόν τον επίσημο επετειακό μουσικό γεγονός της Διεύθυνσης Πολιτισμού που υλοποιείται σε συνεργασία με τον Οργανισμό του Μεγάρου Μουσικής, το Αριστοτέλειο Πανεπιστήμιο Θεσσαλονίκης καθώς και το Γενικό Επιτελείο Εθνικής Άμυνας, θα συμμετάσχουν επί σκηνής πάνω από 300 συντελεστές. Πιο συγκεκριμένα, οι χορωδοί δύο προσκεκλημένων χορωδιών του Α.Π.Θ., Γιάννης Μάντακας και Χορωδιακό Εργαστήρι του Τμήματος Μουσικών Σπουδών, και του Ι. Ν. Κυρίλλου και Μεθοδίου, οι μουσικοί των προσκεκλημένων μουσικών σωμάτων, καθώς και η Σ.Ο.Δ.Θ. που θα εμφανιστεί στην πλήρη σύνθεσή της.
Ο αρχιμουσικός και συνθέτης Άλκης Μπαλτάς, πέραν της παραχώρησης των ενορχηστρώσεων και των συνθέσεών του, διασκευάζει μαζί με την γνωστή πιανίστρια Βίκυ Στυλιανού, ειδικά για αυτήν την εμφάνιση της Σ.Ο.Δ.Θ., τις Ωδές από τον Ύμνο στην Ελευθερία για μπάντα και συμφωνική ορχήστρα του Κερκυραίου συνθέτη Νικόλαου Χαλικιόπουλου Μάντζαρου. Οι διαχρονικές μελωδίες του Μίκη Θεοδωράκη, οι οποίες έχουν καταγραφεί στις συνειδήσεις των ανθρώπων εθνικώς και διεθνώς ως σύμβολα ελληνισμού, συνδυασμένα με τις εμβληματικές ωδές του Ν. Μάντζαρου θα μας οδηγήσουν ως μία συναυλιακή κατακλείδα στον Εθνικό μας Ύμνο. Ο δυναμικός όγκος τόσο των συντελεστών όσο και του περιεχομένου του προγράμματος δημιουργεί τις προϋποθέσεις για μια συναυλία που κυριολεκτικά θα κατακλύσει σκηνή και αίθουσα, μεταμορφώνοντάς τες σε ένα ενοποιημένο σύνολο που θα «δράσει» κάτω από την στέγη του Μεγάρου Μουσικής Θεσσαλονίκης.
Η συναυλία θα ξεκινήσει με μια σπάνια επί σκηνής συνάντηση και εμφάνιση και των τριών μουσικών σωμάτων των Ενόπλων Δυνάμεων, της Στρατιωτικής Μουσικής Γ' Σώματος Στρατού, του Σμήνους Μουσικής Πολεμικής Αεροπορίας και της Μουσικής Πολεμικού Ναυτικού, ενώ στο δεύτερο μέρος θα συμπράξει μαζί τους και η Φιλαρμονική Ορχήστρα Δήμου Θεσσαλονίκης.

The Symphony Orchestra of the Municipality of Thessaloniki, on the day of the feast of the patron saint of Thessaloniki, Agios Dimitrios, celebrates the triple anniversary of the city, at the same time honoring the forty years since the death of the "singer of victory", Sofia Vembo, who enlivened a crowd of Greek soldiers with her performances but also all the Greek people overburdened by the occupation. The folk melodies of her songs, arranged and orchestrated by the late Vassilis Tenidis, will revive the images and sounds of the era.
In this official anniversary musical event of the Directorate of Culture, which is implemented in collaboration with the Organization of the Music Hall, the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki as well as the General Staff of the National Defense, more than 300 performers will participate on stage. More specifically, the choristers of two invited choirs of the University of Athens, Yannis Mantakas and Choral Workshop of the Department of Music Studies, and I. N. Kyrillos and Methodios, the musicians of the invited musical ensembles, as well as S.O. D.Th. which will appear in its full composition.
The chief musician and composer Alkis Baltas, in addition to providing his orchestrations and compositions, arranges together with the well-known pianist Vicky Stylianou, especially for this appearance of S.O.D.T., the Odes from Hymn to Freedomfor band and symphony orchestra by the Corfu composer Nikolaos Halikiopoulos Mantzaros. The timeless melodies of Mikis Theodorakis, which have been recorded in the consciousness of people nationally and internationally as symbols of Hellenism, combined with the emblematic odes of N. Mantzaros will lead us as a concert conclusion to our National Anthem. The dynamic volume of both the performers and the content of the program creates the conditions for a concert that will literally overwhelm the stage and hall, transforming them into a unified ensemble that will "act" under the roof of the Thessaloniki Music Hall.
The concert will begin with a rare on-stage meeting and performance of all three bands of the Armed Forces, the Military Band of the Third Army Corps, the Band of the Air Force and the Band of the Navy, while in the second part they will be joined by the Philharmonic Orchestra of the Municipality of Thessaloniki.
