Sensitive to the distinctive soundscape of Venice, his hometown, and especially to the sound of the various bells that mark the rhythm of daily life, Nono said: “They are indications of life on the lagoon, on the sea. Calls to work, to meditation. Warnings. And life continues there in the painful and calm necessity of the “balance of the deep interior” as Kafka says.” Similarly evocative are the pieces by Foresi and Ratoci, two composers from the Millennial Generation, struggling with a sort of “aesthetics of ruins 2.0”. Foresi looks at the piano as a sort of sampler, deprived of its romantic aura, while Ratoci takes us to what is now a “non-place”, East St. Louis, Illinois, in search of Miles Davis’s childhood home, among the “ghosts” and/or the relics of traditional blues and swing.

Sensibile al soundscape, alla particolarissima atmosfera sonora di Venezia, la sua città, e specialmente al suono delle campane, così vario, che ritma la vita quotidiana, Nono diceva: “Sono segnali di vita sulla laguna, sul mare: inviti al lavoro, alla meditazione, avvertimenti”. E la vita vi continua nella necessità sofferta e serena dell’“equilibrio del profondo interiore”, come dice Kafka. Evocativi sono anche i brani di Foresi e Ratoci, come possono esserlo per due compositori della Millennial Generation alle prese con una sorta di estetica delle rovine 2.0. Foresi vede così nel pianoforte una sorta di campionatore privo della sua aura romantica, mentre Ratoci ci conduce in un “non luogo” com’è oggi East St. Louis, Illinois, alla ricerca della casa natale di Miles Davis, tra l’emergere di “spettri” e/o reliquie della tradizione blues e swing.
