Un concert choral qui nous invite à nous rassembler autour des chants de notre enfance, mais pas seulement ! Mendelssohn, Stravinski et Britten ont renouvelé les formes chorales, associant inspiration religieuse, simplicité, joie et pureté du langage.
 
Avec sa Symphonie de psaumes, Stravinski emploie le chœur pour un retour aux voix ancestrales et intemporelles de l’Ancien Testament : sur les textes de trois psaumes, le compositeur fait alterner solennité et dépouillement avec une relecture de la tradition polyphonique, dans un dialogue poétique étonnant avec l’accompagnement instrumental, ici transcrit pour piano.

Mendelssohn nous livre une interprétation intimiste et émouvante d’un autre psaume et d’un cantique extrait de l’Évangile selon saint Luc, dans une écriture d’une grande limpidité pour chœur a cappella, tandis que Britten, avec les Friday afternoons, évoque ces moments privilégiés autour desquels enfants et adultes se retrouvent pour chanter ensemble. Quatre chants traditionnels de Noël concluent ce programme inventif en hommage à l’émotion chorale partagée.

A concert that reconnects us with the collective singing of childhood – but that is not all! Mendelssohn, Stravinsky and Britten brought something new to choral forms through a combination of religious inspiration, simplicity, joy and purity of language.

With his Symphony of Psalms, Stravinsky uses the chorus to evoke the timeless and ancestral voices of the Old Testament: with the texts of three psalms, the composer interlaces solemnity and simplicity in a rereading of tradition, creating a surprisingly poetic dialogue with the instrumental accompaniment, here transcribed for piano.

Mendelssohn offers an intimate and moving interpretation of another psalm and a hymn from the Gospel of Luke, in a piece for a cappella chorus composed with great clarity, while Britten’s Friday Afternoons celebrates the moments when children and adults gather to sing together. Four traditional Christmas carols conclude this inventive program, a tribute to shared choral emotion.
