Op een warme zomermiddag ligt een boswachter in het bos een dutje te doen als er een kikker op zijn neus belandt. Hij schrikt op en ziet een prachtig jong vosje. Hij grijpt het en neemt het tegenspartelende dier mee naar huis. Nadat het vosje enige tijd in gevangenschap bij de boswachter en diens knorrige vrouw heeft gewoond, ontsnapt het naar de bossen. Daar ontmoet het een mannelijke vos, en het is liefde op het eerste gezicht. Een bruiloft volgt, en de gezinsuitbreiding laat niet lang op zich wachten.

Op een dag wordt het vosje neergeschoten door een stroper, nadat het een kip uit diens mand heeft geroofd. Een tijd later doet de boswachter in het bos een dutje en ziet in zijn droom een jong vosje,  het evenbeeld van zijn eigen vosje. Net wil hij het pakken of hij wordt wakker. In zijn hand houdt hij een verschrikte kikker, de kleinzoon van de kikker die de boswachter in het allereerste tafereel wakker maakte.

On a warm summer afternoon, a forester is taking a nap in the woods when a frog lands on his nose. He is startled and sees a beautiful young fox. He grabs it and takes the struggling animal home. After living in captivity with the forester and his grumpy wife for some time, the fox escapes into the woods. There it meets a male fox, and it's love at first sight. A wedding follows, and the family expansion is not long in coming.

One day, the fox is shot by a poacher after stealing a chicken from his basket. A while later, the ranger takes a nap in the forest and sees in his dream a young fox, the spitting image of his own fox. He is just about to grab it when he wakes up. In his hand he holds a frightened frog, the grandson of the frog who awakened the ranger in the very first scene.
