Dopo aver studiato con il Quartetto Ysaÿe a Parigi, con Gábor Takács, Eberhard Feltz e György Kurtág, il Quatuor Ebène è stato vincitore del Concorso ARD nel 2004. Questo ha segnato l’inizio della sua ascesa, culminata in numerosi premi e riconoscimenti.
I concerti del Quatuor sono contraddistinti da uno slancio particolare: la capacità di unire la tradizione a nuove forme musicali e di coinvolgere un ampio pubblico di giovani; il Quatuor comunica la sua conoscenza anche tenendo masterclass regolari al Conservatorio di Parigi. Nel 2005 il Quatuor ha vinto il Premio Belmont della Fondazione Forberg-Schneider, che da allora collabora regolarmente con l’ensemble, permettendogli – dal 2009 – di suonare su strumenti antichi di valore inestimabile, concessi da collezioni private.
I dischi del Quatuor Ebène spaziano dalle opere di Haydn, Bartók, Debussy, Fauré, Mozart fino ai fratelli Mendelssohn e hanno ricevuto numerosi premi, tra cui un Gramophone Award, un ECHO Klassik, il BBC Music Magazine Award e il Midem Classic Award. Di recente il Quatuor ha collaborato con Philippe Jaroussky nel disco “Green (mélodies françaises)” che ha vinto il BBC Music Magazine Award 2016, e ha pubblicato un disco di Lieder di Schubert registrati con Matthias Goerne, insieme al Quintetto d’archi di Schubert eseguito con Gautier Capuçon.
Negli ultimi anni, il Quatuor ha focalizzato i suoi programmi sui Quartetti di Beethoven, con esibizioni alla Elbphilharmonie di Amburgo, alla Philharmonie du Luxembourg, alla Carnegie Hall di New York, al Salzburger Festspiele e al Festival Menuhin di Gstaad.

Alexander Lonquich è nato a Trier (Germania). Nel 1977 ha vinto il Primo Premio al Concorso Casagrande dedicato a Schubert. Da allora ha tenuto concerti in Giappone, Stati Uniti e nei principali centri musicali europei. Ha collaborato con direttori d’orchestra quali C. Abbado, K. Sanderling, T. Koopman, E. Krivine, H. Holliger, M. Minkowski e S. Vègh. Nella musica da camera, ha suonato con C. Tetzlaff, N. Altstaedt, V. Frang, J. Bell, S. Isserlis, H. Schiff, I. Faust, C. Widmann, J. Widmann, B. Pergamenschikov, H. Holliger, F.P. Zimmermann. Ha ottenuto il "Diapason d’Or", il "Premio Abbiati" e il "Premio Edison". Nel ruolo di direttore-solista, collabora con l’Orchestra da Camera di Mantova e, tra le altre, ha lavorato con l’Orchestra della Radio di Francoforte, Royal Philharmonic Orchestra, Deutsche Kammerphilarmonie, Camerata Salzburg, Mahler Chamber Orchestra, Orchestre des Champs Elysées e Filarmonica della Scala. Si esibisce regolarmente per l'Accademia Nazionale di S. Cecilia, con la quale collabora anche come direttore-solista. Dal 2014 è Direttore Principale dell’Orchestra del Teatro Olimpico di Vicenza.

After studying with the Ysaÿe Quartet in Paris, with Gábor Takács, Eberhard Feltz and György Kurtág, the Quatuor Ebène was winner of the ARD Competition in 2004. This marked the beginning of its ascent, culminating in numerous prizes and awards.
The Quatuor concerts are characterized by a particular impetus: the ability to combine tradition with new musical forms and to involve a large audience of young people; the Quatuor also communicates his knowledge by holding regular masterclasses at the Paris Conservatoire. In 2005 the Quatuor won the Belmont Prize of the Forberg-Schneider Foundation, which has since then collaborated regularly with the ensemble, allowing it – since 2009 – to play on priceless antique instruments, granted by private collections.
The Quatuor Ebène's records range from works by Haydn, Bartók, Debussy, Fauré, Mozart up to the Mendelssohn brothers and have received numerous awards, including a Gramophone Award, an ECHO Klassik, the BBC Music Magazine Award and the Midem Classic Award. He performs regularly for the Accademia Nazionale di S. Cecilia, with which he also collaborates as conductor-soloist. Since 2014 he has been Chief Conductor of the Orchestra of the Teatro Olimpico in Vicenza.
