Sergei Rachmaninov's third piano concerto begins with a wonderfully simple melody. "I wanted to sing the melody on the piano like a singer would. That's all!", he said later. But the work, also known as the "Elephant Concerto", is one of the most difficult for pianists and contains more notes per second than any other major concerto of its kind. Rachmaninov himself played the premiere in America in 1909 and practised it on the Atlantic crossing because he only finished it at the last moment. Of course, this is no longer noticeable in the work today - it is one of the most popular and most frequently performed piano concertos of all time.

Die Tickets für diese Veranstaltung sind ab dem 12.06.2024 ab 10 Uhr verfügbar. Mit einer wunderbar schlichten Weise beginnt das dritte Klavierkonzert von Sergei Rachmaninow. "Ich wollte die Melodie auf dem Klavier singen, wie ein Sänger es täte. Das ist alles!", meinte er selbst später. Aber schlicht bleibt es nicht, das auch als "Elefentenkonzert" bezeichnete Werk zählt zu den schwersten für Pianist:innen überhaupt und enthält so viele Noten pro Sekunde wie kein anderes großes Konzert seiner Art. Rachmaninow selbst spielte die Uraufführung in Amerika 1909 und übte es noch auf der Atlantiküberfahrt, weil er erst im letzten Moment damit fertig geworden war. Das merkt man dem Werk heute natürlich nicht mehr an, es ist eines der beliebtesten und meistgespielten Klavierkonzerte überhaupt.
