Berlin ist schon seit einer Weile die Wahlheimat des australischen Spitzengeigers mit taiwanesischen Wurzeln, kein Wunder also, dass Ray Chen sich auch dort immer wieder mit Freunden zum Kammermusikmachen trifft. Günstig fügt es sich allerdings, wenn diese zufällig führende Positionen bei den Berliner Philharmonikern einnehmen. Mit deren erstem Konzertmeister Noah Bendix-Balgley, dem ersten Solobratscher Amihai Grosz und dem Cellisten Stephan Koncz bildet Ray Chen das Quartett »Made in Berlin«; gemeinsam erkunden die vier das vielschichtige Kammermusikrepertoire in unterschiedlichen Formationen: Die Sonate für zwei Violinen von Eugène Ysaÿe ist ein absoluter Geheimtipp unter Kennern, das Trio von Jean Françaix ein märchenhafter Exkurs und das berühmte Streichquartett, mit dem der 28-jährige Maurice Ravel sich für den »Prix de Rome« bewarb, ein absoluter Geniestreich.
