The immortal masterpieces of the great Giuseppe Verdi form a solid basis of the repertoire of almost all opera houses, in the homeland of the composer (where he is revered as a national hero and whose name the streets are named in almost all cities), many arias are sung as folk songs. Such is the fate of the famous song of the Duke from the opera "Rigoletto", in Russian translation known as "The Heart of Beauties". The author foresaw its popularity and until the premiere did not show the notes to anyone - including the performer of the part. However, the very next morning after the first performance, literally the whole of Italy sang the song.
Now it is difficult to imagine that once opera was considered dangerous and too free. The very first readers of the libretto – the Venetian censors – found it obscene and insisted on a number of significant changes. And a few years before that, the drama by V. Hugo "The King Is Amused", which formed the basis of the opera, was banned in Paris.Therefore, Verdi had to go to some tricks - the scene of action was moved to Italy, and King Francis I was "demoted in rank" to duke. The name of the jester - Tribule - was also changed: now the main character was Rigoletto. An opera was named after him, triumphantly continuing its march through the stages of the world.
