This season sees the new production of Verdi's mid-career masterpiece Rigoletto. This heart-breaking story unfolds around Rigoletto, the court jester, his beautiful and innocent daughter Gilda, and a womaniser noble Il Duca di Mantova. The score has numerous familiar pieces, including "La donna è mobile", "Caro nome" and "Cortigliani, vil razza dannata", and the quartetto "Bella figlia dell'amore" in Act 3.
This production by Emilio SAGI was co-produced between the ABAO Bilbao Opera and São Carlos National Theatre and was also performed at the Palau de les Arts Reina Sofía in Valencia. It is a highly successful, contemporary look at this drama and exposing the characters' pathos.

The title role is performed by Roberto FRONTALI, a renowned Verdi baritone. The role of Gilda is performed by the highly acclaimed coloratura soprano Hasmik TOROSYAN, who attracted our audience with her charming performance of Norina in Don Pasquale (2019). Iván AYÓN RIVAS makes his house debut as Il Duca, having previously performed the role in Florence, Rome and Torino. With Italian maestro Maurizio BENINI taking up the baton, this promises to be a performance opera fans will not want to miss.

ヴェルディ中期の傑作にして人気作『リゴレット』を新制作いたします。富と権力にものを言わせ放蕩無頼の生活を送るマントヴァ公爵、道化師として公爵に媚びを売る顔と娘を愛する父というふたつの顔をもつリゴレット、その娘で純粋一途なジルダを軸に、愛、呪い、復讐の悲劇が繰り広げられます。「女心の歌」「慕わしき人の名は」「悪魔め、鬼め！」など数々の名アリアで彩られる一方、美しい重唱が多いのも『リゴレット』の魅力。なかでも第3幕の四重唱「美しい恋の乙女よ」は、オペラ史上最も美しい四重唱と称されています。
エミリオ・サージ演出のプロダクションはビルバオ・オペラとリスボン・サン・カルロス歌劇場の共同制作で初演後、バレンシアのソフィア王妃芸術宮殿でも上演され、現代的な視点で作品の演劇性と登場人物の孤独とにクローズアップし、大成功を収めたものです。
タイトルロールにはヴェルディ・バリトンとして世界を飛び回るロベルト・フロンターリ、ジルダには『ドン・パスクワーレ』ノリーナで喝采をさらった新世代のコロラトゥーラ・ソプラノ、ハスミック・トロシャン、マントヴァ公爵には同役をフィレンツェ、ローマ、トリノなどで歌っている大型の若手テノール、イヴァン・アヨン・リヴァスが出演。指揮にはイタリアの名匠マウリツィオ・ベニーニが登場、オペラファンには見逃せない公演です。
