One of the most famous works of the great Italian master does not need to be introduced to the opera audience. For Verdi, Rigoletto's work, Hugo's drama The King is Entertained, is a source of great passion, a source of inspiration for a socially critical view, but also an incentive to create a moving intimate story. The protagonist, court jester and gentleman Rigoletto, faces a dilemma: to survive in an awkward environment at all costs, not to look at the consequences of his behavior - or to resist, as another of the characters in this story, Count Monterone? Because in life, every act is paid for, sometimes very bitterly, by the loss of the most precious - in Rigoletto's story, the beloved daughter of the Guild.

At the time of its creation, some opponents blamed Verdi's work for being too "Germanic" to be too close in nature to Richard Wagner's work. If it was because Verdi had achieved an extraordinary expressiveness of musical-dramatic expression that, in a sense, exceeded the limits of Belcant's tradition, then they were right. In any case, this work represents an authentic Verdi's opus, which integrates quite organically into the context of its compositional development.
