In an age when love appears as a sentimental object of irony and cynicism and at the same time as the trigger of an unstoppable machine of utopian literary and philosophical production (not to mention its trivialized media and market exploits), Romeo and Juliet continues to glow like a mythical and abruptly interrupted love that is willing to play its enthusiasm and suffering in unpredictable social, cultural, and political contexts.

More than the possible compulsion to surrender to the challenges of actualization, we were interested in what happens to the story in unsuspected theatrical and musical circumstances provided to the famous couple with a surprising sense of Shakespeare’s blends of tones and atmospheres by composer Gounod and his librettist. Beyond defying the centuries-old hatred that is tearing their quarrelsome families apart, this time the opera Romeo and Juliet is, in our opinion, looking for a "free space where they can take off their masks" (Mercutio, Act I), even if it is a space - and this time - only the space and time of Queen Mab's cobweb veil.
