Rothko Chapel
On November 5, The Sonic Liberation Players and Chorus pro Musica join together for a rare performance of Morton Feldman's "Rothko Chapel." The piece—for voice, celesta, percussion, and viola—embodies the titular chapel located in Houston, TX, a site of great importance to Civil Rights history in the United States.
The Sonic Liberation Players will accompany the rest of the program on an array of instruments.
Who are the Sonic Liberation Players?
The Sonic Liberation Players is a Boston-based ensemble that mixes classical sounds with modern approaches to music. From their website:
"The Sonic Liberation Players explore new ways of encountering sound. To offer this experience to a broad range of listeners, we play uncommonly heard works and commission new works that investigate the area between 'academic/intellectual' and 'pop influenced' classical."
Featuring violin, viola, cello, piano, flute, oboe, percussion, vocals, and more, the players have a wide range of musical backgrounds and creative pursuits. Read more about the players on their website.
Chorus pro Musica is thrilled to be joining forces this with exceptional group for our return to Church of the Covenant.
