As an orphan, the inexperienced Siegfried grows up with the carelessly greedy blacksmith Mime, only the remains of a sword remain from his unknown father. At some point, curiosity about his own origins and identity is too great, and after fearlessly and naively reforging his father's wonderfully strong sword, he sets off. Mime had persuaded him that he had to learn to be afraid in order to survive in the world - preferably from the dragon worm Fafner, who dwells in a forest cave on a precious treasure, including the powerful ring that gives the title. But with his carefree nature, Siegfried masters the episode effortlessly and wins the treasure. What's more, after accidentally ingesting the Dragonborn, he can suddenly understand the language of animals! So he comes to a rock blazed with fire, where he finds a sleeping woman, Brünnhilde, who can only be awakened by the most fearless hero. For the first time, Siegfried feels fear - but it quickly turns into love!

The second day of the epic music drama is all about self-discovery and the original and natural, at times it seems like a fairy tale for grown-ups. Despite some dark moments, it's the most comedic part of the ring , and the first act in particular has upbeat moments with the Forge's Song. With Siegfried , Peter Konwitschny continues his highly acclaimed production of the tetralogy Der Ring des Nibelungen  , which will conclude in 2024/25 with the performance of the complete cycle.
