In this special chamber concert, the new concertmaster Daniel Cho presents himself with a brilliant selection of the finest pearls of chamber music between Paris and Vienna. To start with, a child prodigy from music history takes you to the vibrant Paris of the 1930s, the time of multicolored neoclassicism, which in form and style linked to the music of Viennese classicism. There the young Jean Françaix traced the zeitgeist and, at the age of just 20, immersed himself in the temptations of the music city that was to be the artistic home for so many artists and free spirits of the early 20th century. The musicologist and musician Arthur Hoérée simply said of the early work Trio à cordes: “a masterpiece”. From Paris we go to Prague to Erwin Schulhoff, who was one of the most internationally successful composers in the 1920s, before he got caught in the middle of politics. At the premiere of his first string quartet, all signs pointed to success, because the tingling nervousness and the folklorically tinged, dazzling variety of sounds, the artistic perfection of an entire epoch inspired audiences and press alike. Even today, the work is a milestone for every chamber music ensemble. Anton Webern's last string quartet shows that avant-garde is not just a style, but an inner attitude. On March 12, 1938, the day Hitler invaded Austria, he wrote to the Jone-Humpliks: “I'm totally absorbed in my work and may or may not be disturbed. And so, under the brutal impressions of the war, a work of unparalleled concentration and technical elegance was created. The Sextet op. 10 by Erich Wolfgang Korngold also demands the highest level of musical precision and virtuosity. The composer, who at a young age was regarded as the legitimate successor of none other than Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart and was also labeled the "child prodigy", is revered above all for his operas and film music. The string sextet reproduces a prophetic foreshadowing of his great film scores in rich classical-romantic gestures. who at a young age was considered the legitimate successor of none other than Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart and was also labeled the “child prodigy”, is revered above all for his operas and film music.
