The death of a child and the despair of a parent related to it is a timeless and universal theme. Due to the war taking place just abroad, it is even more close to us. All the songs included in the program of the concert are connected with Marian themes, suffering after the loss of a child, as well as with a call for peace. Maestro Giovanni Antonini will conduct works from the Middle Ages to the present day.

The first song in the program is Alleluia Nativitas . Its author is remembered as Magister Perotinus. He created in Paris at the turn of the 12th and 13th centuries, he wrote music for the Notre-Dame cathedral. Alleluia Nativitas is a three-voice work in which high voices weave an ornamental melody over long-held, static accompaniment. We will also listen to compositions by Guillaume de Machaut, an artist who lived and worked in the 14th century. His three-part motet Inviolata genitrix represents a more advanced polyphonic style than Perotin's work. The lowest and most static voice, the tenor (from "tenere" - to hold), sings a melody taken from the chant, while the two higher voices are much more mobile, also written to a different text.Hoquetus David is a short and witty instrumental composition in which the composer used the hockey technique, in which the voices exchange single sounds. When one of them is playing, the other is silent, and vice versa. There is nothing strange about it, after all, the word hoquetus means hiccup in Latin!

Between these two medieval works, Da pacem Domine from 2004 will resound, a work by the contemporary Estonian composer Arvo Pärt, inspired by the music of the Middle Ages. It is a calm and extremely moving plea for peace. Another figure whose work will be presented during the concert is Tarquinio Merula, an Italian composer and organist of the early Baroque period. He belonged to the representatives of the musical avant-garde of those times, and his bold music has not lost anything of its expressive power. In his emotional Hor ch'è tempo di dormire, tenderness is mixed with anxiety. The subject is the Mother of God, who puts little Jesus to sleep. Watching the child fall asleep, he knows that one day he will be crucified. It is a touching song about death, hope and love. In turn, Il terremoto (Earthquake) by Joseph Haydn is the most dramatic link in the meditative cycle The Seven Words of Christ on the Cross . The composer tells the performers to play "fast and with the greatest power". The elegiac, lapidary Sonata in E flat major  RV 130 "Al Santo Sepolcro" by Antonio Vivaldi will be a contrast to this musical explosion .

The program of the concert will be completed by Giovanni Battista Pergolesi's dramatic and expressive Stabat Mater , a work for soprano, alto, string ensemble and basso continuo, composed of twelve short, contrasting in terms of tempo and expression links. The creator completed them in 1736, just a few weeks before his death. Perhaps that is why the theme of the encounter with death taken up in this work is so personal, sounds so authentic and so moving. Some commentators pointed to the connection of this work with the operas created by Pergolesi, arguing that Stabat Materis an overly effective composition for the subject taken up by the artist. It would be a mistake to deny this music the charm and melodiousness of the melody, but it is even more wrong to say that these features of Pergolesi's style deprive the work of seriousness and depth of expression.

Śmierć dziecka i związana z nią rozpacz rodzica to temat ponadczasowy i uniwersalny. Z powodu rozgrywającej się zaraz za granicą wojny – bliski tym bardziej, także nam. Wszystkie utwory zawarte w programie koncertu łączą się z tematyką maryjną, z cierpieniem po utracie dziecka, a także z wezwaniem o pokój. Maestro Giovanni Antonini zadyryguje dziełami powstającymi od średniowiecza do współczesności.

Pierwszy utwór w programie to Alleluia Nativitas. Jego autor zapamiętany został jako Magister Perotinus. Tworzył w Paryżu na przełomie XII i XIII wieku, pisał muzykę na potrzeby katedry Notre-Dame. Alleluia Nativitas jest dziełem trzygłosowym, w którym głosy wysokie snują ozdobną melodię ponad długo trzymanym, statycznym akompaniamentem. Wysłuchamy również kompozycji Guillaume’a de Machauta, artysty żyjącego i działającego w XIV wieku. Jego trzygłosowy motet Inviolata genitrix reprezentuje bardziej zaawansowany styl polifoniczny niż dzieło Perotina. Najniższy i najbardziej statyczny głos, tenor (od „tenere” – trzymać), śpiewa melodię zaczerpniętą z chorału, natomiast dwa wyższe głosy są już znacznie bardziej ruchliwe, napisane też zostały do innego tekstu. Hoquetus David to krótka i dowcipna kompozycja instrumentalna, w której twórca zastosował technikę hoketową, polegającą na tym, że głosy wymieniają się pojedynczymi dźwiękami. Kiedy jeden z nich gra, drugi milczy, i vice versa. Nie ma w tym nic dziwnego, wszak słowo hoquetus oznacza po łacinie czkawkę!

Pomiędzy tymi dwoma średniowiecznymi dziełami wybrzmi Da pacem Domine z 2004 roku, utwór współczesnego estońskiego kompozytora Arvo Pärta, inspirującego się muzyką średniowiecza. To spokojna i niezwykle poruszająca prośba o pokój. Kolejną postacią, której twórczość zostanie przybliżona podczas koncertu, jest Tarquinio Merula włoski kompozytor i organista epoki wczesnego baroku. Należał do przedstawicieli muzycznej awangardy owych czasów, a jego śmiała muzyka nie straciła nic z siły wyrazu. W jego emocjonalnej Hor ch'è tempo di dormire czułość miesza się z niepokojem. Podmiotem jest Matka Boska, która usypia małego Jezusa. Przyglądając się zasypiającemu dziecku, wie, że zostanie ono kiedyś ukrzyżowane. To wzruszająca pieśń o śmierci, nadziei i miłości. Z kolei Il terremoto (Trzęsienie ziemi) Josepha Haydna to najbardziej dramatyczne ogniwo z medytacyjnego cyklu Siedem słów Chrystusa na Krzyżu. Kompozytor każe wykonawcom grać „szybko i z największą mocą”. Kontrast do tej muzycznej eksplozji stanowić będzie elegijna, lapidarna Sonata Es-dur  RV 130 „Al Santo Sepolcro” Antonia Vivaldiego.

Programu koncertu dopełni dramatyczne i ekspresyjne Stabat Mater Giovanniego Battisty Pergolesiego, dzieło przeznaczone na sopran, alt, zespół smyczkowy i basso continuo, złożone z dwunastu krótkich, skontrastowanych pod względem tempa i wyrazu ogniw. Twórca ukończył je w 1736 roku, zaledwie kilka tygodni przed śmiercią. Być może właśnie dlatego podjęta w tym utworze tematyka spotkania ze śmiercią jest tak osobista, brzmi tak autentycznie i tak poruszająco. Niektórzy komentatorzy wskazywali na powiązania tego dzieła z operami stworzonymi przez Pergolesiego, argumentując, że Stabat Mater jest kompozycją nadmiernie efektowną jak na podjęty przez twórcę temat. Błędem byłoby odmawiać tej muzyce uroku i śpiewności melodii, ale jeszcze większym błędem jest twierdzić, że te cechy stylu Pergolesiego odbierają dziełu powagi i głębi wyrazu.
