Director Ilaria Lanzino and set designer Leif-Erik Heine took home the first prize of the 11th European Opera Directing Prize in 2020, winning the opportunity to stage The Haunted Manor at Poznań Opera. Sir David Pountney was a member of the jury that awarded the prize to them. Now they meet to talk about Lanzino and Heine's production, which premieres on 9 July. Considered a jewel of 19th-century Polish opera, Stanislaw Moniuszko’s The Haunted Manor remains largely unknown abroad. Full of melodic inventiveness, bel canto inspiration and unique local colour, it certainly deserves a wider audience.
