Joe Gillis happened to stop in the driveway of a stately home on famous Sunset Boulevard. This is where the silent film diva Norma Desmond resides. Once achieved great fame and fortune, she now lives lonely and withdrawn, indulging in memories of bygone times and indulging in the illusion of continuing her unique film career. Her butler supports her in her madness. When Norma hears that Joe is a scriptwriter, she sees him as an opportunity to find her way back to the studios. But meanwhile other actors in Hollywood of the 50s are realizing their dream of great success.

Based on the film of the same name by Billy Wilder (1950), which ironically questions the glittering film world of the dream factory Hollywood, Andrew Lloyd Webber created one of the most successful and at the same time emotionally gripping rock musicals in 1993. The fate of Norma Desmond is exemplary for all people who, trapped in their past, have lost touch with reality in the here and now.
