Kevés zene sűrít magába oly sok vágyat és szenvedélyt, s vetít oly sok látomást a képzelet vásznára, mint a korai romatika egyik legnagyobb remekműve, Berlioz Fantasztikus szimfóniája. Nem minden karmester képes méltón közvetíteni e kompozíció szélsőségeit, de a magyar közönség régi kedvence, a Magyar Televízió I. Nemzetközi Karmesterversenyének győztese, Kobayashi Ken-Ichiro igen. Ez a hangverseny kivételes művet ígér – kivételes előadásban.

Hector Berlioz (1803–1869) hét-nyolc évvel volt idősebb a romantika 1810-11 körül született nagy generációjának tagjainál, így érthető, hogy életművének leghíresebb darabja, a Fantasztikus szimfónia (1830) akkor keletkezett, amikor Schumann, Chopin, Liszt még korai műveit írta. A szimfónia az első vérbeli programzenei alkotások egyike, erős ábrázoló, hangulatfestő törekvéssel. Álmok, szenvedélyek, Bál, Jelenet a mezőn, Menet a vesztőhelyre, Boszorkányszombat – a tételcímek is jelzik, milyen változékony hangulatvilág és milyen fantáziadús kifejezésmód uralkodik a zenében, melynek bizonyos részletei egyes feltételezések szerint ópiummámorban születtek. A művet feszítő érzelmek és indulatok hátterében álló inspiráció a zeneszerző viharos (később házasságba torkolló, majd válással végződő) szerelme az angol színésznő, Harriet Smithson iránt. Kobayashi Ken-Ichiro 1940-ben született Ivakiban, meghatározó jelentőségű budapesti versenygyőzelme 1974-ben tette egész Magyarország számára ismertté művészetét. Ferencsik János halála után, az 1980-as évek végén és az 1990-es évek elején az Állami Hangversenyzenekar első karmestere volt, ma a Nemzeti Filharmonikus Zenekar örökös tiszteletbeli elnökkarnagya. A Japán Filharmonikusok vezető karmestere.

Öt hangversenyével a Nemzeti Filharmonikusok Kocsis bérlete stílusok, műfajok, előadók rendkívüli változatosságát kínálja. Az első est Prokofjev–Liszt–Chopin–Bartók-műsorát két kivételes orosz művész: a fiatal zongoravirtuóz, Alexander Malofeev és a női karmesterek örvendetesen növekvő táborát gyarapító Aleftina Ioffe teszi izgalmassá. Az ezúttal karmesterként fellépő legendás oboaművész és zeneszerző, Heinz Holliger egykori mestere és annak tanára előtt tiszteleg Veress és Bartók műveinek tolmácsolásával – az est hegedűvirtuóza az orosz Ilya Gringolts. Kiváló énekesek társaságában Vashegyi György a 18. század végi párizsi templomi koncertek szokását eleveníti fel, egymás után szólaltatva meg Pergolesi és Haydn Stabat Materét. Carlo Montanaro és Kelemen Barnabás Róma varázsát megidéző programján Respighi mellett egy Liszt-zongoradarab Kocsis Zoltán készítette átirata és Beethoven Hegedűversenye is felhangzik, míg a záróeseményen Berlioz szenvedélyei ragadják magával a hallgatót a Fantasztikus szimfóniában, a legavatottabb tolmács, Kobayashi Ken-Ichiro közvetítésével.

Very little music condenses so much desire and passion, and also projects so many visions on to the canvas of our imagination, as Berlioz’s Symphonie fantastique, one of the greatest masterpieces of the early Romantic era. Not every conductor is capable of fully conveying the extremes of this composition, but Ken-Ichiro Kobayashi, an old favourite of Hungarian audiences and the winner of Hungarian Television’s First International Conducting Competition, certainly is. This concert promises a unique work, and a unique performance.

Hector Berlioz (1803–1869) was seven or eight years older than the members of the great Romantic generation – who were born around 1810-11 – so it is understandable that the most famous piece of his career, the Symphonie fantastique (1830), was composed when Schumann, Chopin and Liszt were still writing their early works. This symphony is one of the very first works of authentic programme music, and has a powerful desire to paint pictures and moods. Reveries – Passions, A Ball, Scene in the Fields, March to the Scaffold, Dream of a Witches’ Sabbath – the titles of the movements reveal the variable moods and imaginative modes of expression in the music, and some parts are thought to have been created while Berlioz was high on opium. Inspiration for the work’s strained emotions and passions came from the composer’s stormy love affair (which would later lead to marriage, before ending in divorce) with the English actress Harriet Smithson. Ken-Ichiro Kobayashi was born in Iwaki in 1940. His work became widely known in Hungary after he won a prestigious Budapest music competition in 1974. After the death of János Ferencsik, Kobayashi was the principal conductor of the Hungarian State Symphony Orchestra from the late 1980s to the early 1990s. Today, he is conductor laureate of the Hungarian National Philharmonic Orchestra. He is also principal conductor of the Japan Philharmonic Orchestra.

The five concerts of the Hungarian National Philharmonic’s Kocsis season ticket offer an extraordinary variety of styles, genres, and performers. Generating the excitement in the first night’s programme of Prokofiev, Liszt, Chopin and Bartók will be two exceptional Russian artists: the young piano virtuoso Alexander Malofeev and, expanding the thankfully growing contingent of female conductors, Maestra Alevtina Ioffe. Next up, taking the podium this time as conductor will be the legendary oboist and composer Heinz Holliger, as he pays tribute to both his former mentor, Sándor Veress, and Veress’s own teacher, Bartók, by interpreting works of theirs – with the Russian Ilya Gringolts serving as the violin virtuoso for the evening. Joined by some excellent singers, György Vashegyi will revive the late 18th-century Parisian tradition of church concerts, performing both Pergolesi’s and Haydn’s Stabat Maters one after the other. Carlo Montanaro and Barnabás Kelemen’s programme evoking the magic of Rome will include, in addition to Respighi, a Liszt piano piece transcribed by Zoltán Kocsis and Beethoven’s Violin Concerto. The subscription concludes by captivating listeners with the passions Berlioz brought to his Symphonie fantastique, as relayed by that most experienced of interpreters, Ken-Ichiro Kobayashi.
