This week is dedicated to the extraordinary experience of the internationally renowned vocal teacher Margreet Honig. In order to preserve her legacy, the IVC organises a masterclass week in which she will work together with six voice coaches on the art of teaching singing. Twelve young singers will participate in these sessions but will also work with two other famous singers on the ten musical pieces that have to be prepared. The two other coaches are soprano Rosemary Joshua and countertenor Andrew Watts. The program consists of private coaching, group sessions, public master classes and the week concludes with a concert on Sunday, 5th March 2023.

The teachers can gain the following from this week:

Learning through observation of Margreet Honig and the other two coaches.
Having the experience of working in short sessions with a variety of young singers.
Observing how peers work differently with the same singers on the same themes.
Getting direct feedback from one of the world’s leading vocal teachers.
The singers can gain the following:

Working with three world class coaches in a relaxed and intimate way.
Presenting themselves to the public with public masterclasses and a final concert on the 5th of March 2023.
Experiencing first-hand the diverse ways of approaching vocal teaching. And through that experience being able in the future to evaluate feedback that comes from vocal coaches in a more informed way and thus gaining more insight from it.
Margreet Honig will centre her sessions with the teachers around the following themes:

Phrasing and singing line
Text
Placement of the voice

Wat moet een zangpedagoog weten en waarom?

In Nederland woont een legendarische pedagoge die met vele bekende zangers(Thomas Oliemans, Elina Garança en Ian Bostridge, om er drie te noemen) veelvuldig samenwerkt. Margreet Honig heeft een unieke stijl van lesgeven die grote resultaten teweegbrengt.

De International Vocal Competition ’s-Hertogenbosch presenteert samen met de Margreet Honig Foundation een week waarin de zang en de kunst van het goed lesgeven centraal staat. Op donderdag 2 maart kunt u een unieke les meemaken waarin Margreet observeert en becommentarieert hoe zangleraren met jonge zangers werken. Normaal werkt Margreet achter gesloten deuren maar in ’s-Hertogenbosch kan u letterlijk een blik achter de schermen van de zangwereld werpen.

Op vrijdag 3 maart is er een openbare masterclass met countertenor Andrew Watts (ook pedagoog aan de gerenommeerde Guildhall School of Music in Londen) en op zaterdag 4 maart is sopraan Rosemary Joshua (artistiek leider van de Nationale Opera Studio en bekend van het programma ARIA) aan het werk met vier jonge zangers.

Op zondag 5 maart kunt u de resultaten van het werk van twaalf jonge zangers met werk van Mozart Händel en klassiek Duits en Frans en modern Engels Lied horen.
