It gained particular importance from July 6, 1942, the day on which the Jewish Frank family hid from the Nazis in the rear building of Prinsengracht 263 in Amsterdam. Anne confided everything to the diary; she planned to publish this after World War II under the title Das Hinterhausto publish. After their hiding place was betrayed in 1944, Anne and her family were deported. She died in Bergen-Belsen concentration camp in 1945. After the arrest of the Frank family, their helper Miep Gies took the diary and thus protected it from being seized by the Gestapo. After the war she handed it over to Anne's father Otto Frank, who was the only one to survive the war. Grigori Frid's (1915-2012) mono-opera is a stirring description of the fears that Anne experiences, how she matures into a woman despite life-threatening circumstances, while always maintaining her sense of humor and becoming more relaxed. She draws her unshakable optimism from her ability to process her situation in writing, from her love for her fellow sufferer Peter and from her observations of nature from the skylight of the rear building.
